eHospital: the government system, the commercial namesake, and private HMS
Search for "eHospital" and you find two different things with the same name: the National Informatics Centre’s eHospital, a free cloud HMIS deployed in government hospitals across India, and a commercial product called eHospital Systems sold by a private vendor. Private hospitals regularly ask whether they can use the government one. This page separates the two and explains what a private hospital should compare instead.

NIC eHospital: what it is and who it is for
NIC’s eHospital is a cloud-hosted hospital management information system built by the National Informatics Centre under the Government of India’s digital health programmes. It is ABDM-integrated, covers registration, OPD, IPD, billing, lab and pharmacy modules, and is deployed in well over a thousand government health facilities across states and union territories. It is provisioned for government hospitals and medical colleges through NIC; it is not a product a private hospital can download or buy.
The commercial "eHospital"
Separately, a private vendor sells a hospital management product branded eHospital Systems, listed on software marketplaces with reviews and pricing. It has no connection to NIC. When you see "eHospital 4.7 stars" on a directory, that is the commercial product, not the government system. Check the vendor name before assuming either way.
What a private hospital should compare
Since the government system is not an option, the real comparison is between commercial and open-source HMS platforms on the criteria that matter to you:
- ABHA-linked registration and ABDM milestone status for the exact product
- NABH readiness, and whether a product certificate matters to your accreditation plan
- Scheme and insurance billing, including PMJAY and state schemes
- Deployment: cloud, on-premise or offline-capable
- Three-year total cost including implementation, training and maintenance
- Who supports you, from where, and how fast
Our NABH guide, ABDM guide and cost guide cover each of these in depth, and our vendor comparison lists who holds which certificates. MedCore HMS is one of the options: an Ahmedabad-built, full-stack HMS for private hospitals and nursing homes that is NABH-ready and ABHA-linked, with on-site implementation.
